After holding the 2 park spaces through the night with thousands of people joining in solidarity, the Portland Oregon police zoned in to shut it down.
The remaining tents were removed, and chain link fences are being placed around the park blocks to make the park inaccessible to all, allegedly "for repairs".

Police in riot gear are now threatening the use of chemical & impact weapons.

Chants from the protestors:

"What we are doing is legal"

"I don't see no riot here, take off your riot gear".

Owe your soul to the Company Store... Wal Mart

Wal Mart is up to some new tricks-- telling part time employees they are no longer eligible to get health care benefits, but at the same time are looking to open primary health care Medical Service outlets in their stores.  Honestly, most Wal Mart employees working 24 hours or less a week probably can't afford health care, but of all the mega big box employers, Wal Mart of all places should be able to negotiate a group rate discount for employee benefit offerings. Some people actually take jobs for the ability to obtain health care benefits.

Huff Po Business reports:

"The nation's largest retailer sent out a request for potential partners last month that would help the store become "the largest provider of primary care services in the nation," according to NPR and Kaiser Health News. Walmart sent the request -- whichindicates that the store plans to offer services ranging from vaccinations to urine tests -- during the same week the retail giant said it would cut health benefits for part-time workers, according to NPR.

By making a push to become a player in the health care industry, Walmart is putting itself in position to take advantage of a highly profitable sector of the economy. And that shouldn't change any time soon. A recent report estimated that health care costs would account for a fifth of the entire U.S. economy by the end of this decade."

NPR reported the story & a Wal Mart spokesperson had this to say:

UPDATE: Walmart says its description of its health care ambitions in  the request for information sent to vendors that was obtained by NPR was "overwritten and incorrect," Reuters reports."We are not building a national, integrated, low-cost primary care health care platform," John Agwunobi, senior vice president & president of Walmart U.S. health & wellness said in a statement, according to Reuters


The correction is probably


We ARE building a national, integrated, cruise the gravy, for profit, primary care health care platform,


We can see where this is going-- the part time employee will be sent to the for profit medical center, housed in the store, maybe even put the tab on a future paycheck?

Wow! Walmart is serious about guarding their cheap plastic crap! The local store has multiple clusters of security cameras atop their 1 block long brick big box store.
Most banks have less security cameras! Maybe it is just cheaper to hire one security guard who monitors multiple screens cameras capture views of? The place looks like Ft. Knox.

Costco has added a whole line of "survival products"... the 20 year shelf life food supply, and the victory garden like,  emergency reserve veggie seed stash.  Because if nuclear bombs start to fly, growing carrots & squash in irradiation contaminated soil is going to be the key to your survival?
If anything, you should join Walmart in making everyone know someone is watching, by installing security cameras all over your home.

I suppose it is just a matter of time before bunker shelters are being offered as well.
Oh! I Googled bomb shelter & sure enough they have some fancy designer shelters, complete with digital display screens that are mounted like windows & you can choose from mountain,  or ocean views on tv screens.

The web site states "Your Safety & Security are clearly under threat".

Guilty

I don't usually post on tabloid "news", but a guilty verdict came from a jury today in the M Jackson court case.  I just think Jackson had a tragic & screwed up life. He was robbed of his childhood, made to travel & perform & then hit superstardom. What goes up must come down. So many struggle to find the balance between regular person & superstar status. Multiple child sexual accusations, having his own kids who were made to wear masks & hide their faces.

If anything, Dr. Conrad Murray accepted Jackson as his only patient for $150,000 a month. 

Using surgical IV meds as a regular sleep aid is not sound medicine. 

Conrad Murray will lose his license & do jail time.

Dump your bank day

Today November 5th is Bank Transfer day. The movement is to pull your money from corporate owned, Wall Street, commercial banks, and instead do business with locally owned, more consumer friendly Credit Unions & banks.

It is a real grass roots movement, and it hits them were it hurts- the money!

To me, this movement is similar to the Civil Rights Montgomery Bus Boycott, the 1955 political & social protest campaign. Rosa Parks, MLK jr., Ralph Abernarhy were all involved.
These simple folks, working class people united & refused to ride the buses, because of discrimination.

"The boycott caused crippling financial deficit for the Montgomery public transit system, because the city's black population who were the principal boycotters were also the bulk of the system's paying customers. The campaign lasted from December 1, 1955, when Rosa Parks, an African American woman, was arrested for refusing to surrender her seat to a white person, to December 20, 1956, when a federal ruling, Browder v. Gayle, took effect, and led to a United States Supreme Court decision that declared the Alabama and Montgomery laws requiring segregated buses to be unconstitutional."*


These worker bees who were thought to have no power, banded together & boycotted the discriminatory buses for over 1 year.

Bus fare back then was .10¢

"Black taxi drivers charged ten cents per ride, a fare equal to the cost to ride the bus, in support of the boycott. When word of this reached city officials on December 8, 1955, the order went out to fine any cab driver who charged a rider less than 45 cents. In addition to using private motor vehicles, some people used non-motorized means to get around, such as cycling, walking, or even riding mules or driving horse-drawn buggies. Some people also hitchhiked. During rush hours, sidewalks were often crowded. As the buses received extremely few, if any, passengers, their officials asked the City Commission to allow stopping service to black communities. Across the nation, black churches raised money to support the boycott and collected new and slightly used shoes to replace the tattered footwear of Montgomery's black citizens, many of whom walked everywhere rather than ride the buses and submit to Jim Crow laws."*

I'm just referencing this historic boycott to show that a unified action by the majority can create change.
Poor workers refusing to pay for .10¢ bus fares. The greater community donating shoes so others could literally walk the walk.

Even if you can't make the bank exodus today, (I personally think I am going to open a Credit Union account today just to bump up the official #'s & send that collective one finger salute to Wall Street) it is still worthwhile to do your research & see what locally owned & operated Credit Unions & Banks are best in your area.
Consider at least moving some if not all of your money out of commercial banks.
You may even discover they offer better rates for car & mortgage loans & have less fees & fines. To be a part of the collective movement, and send that unified message- enough with Bankster theft & crimes will send a powerful message.
We are mad as hell & not going to take it anymore.
