Mission Accomplished

May 1, 2003 President Bush declares an end to the Iraq war.

On May 1, 2003, President Bush stood underneath a "Mission Accomplished" banner and announced that "Major combat operations have ended. In the battle of Iraq, the United States and our allies have prevailed."

Here we are 6 years later. Six bloody years. Millions have died. Iraq is not throwing flowers at the US as it's liberators, it looks at the troops & tanks rolling through the streets as the new oppressors. Today is the anniversary of that debacle.

The only thing for sure, is the oil is still flowing, problem the blood is flowing too.
I always thought the idea of installing democracy at gunpoint was a vast mistake, if not an outright crime.
As if we did not know torture was happening with the partial unveiling of goings on at Abu Ghraib, it was not much of a stretch to think the high security prison at Guantanamo was a unmonitored hell where unthinkable horrors took place.

This is the kind of garbage Bush laid out in his grandstand speech:

"In the Battle of Afghanistan, we destroyed the Taliban, many terrorists, and the camps where they trained. We continue to help the Afghan people lay roads, restore hospitals, and educate all of their children. Yet we also have dangerous work to complete. As I speak, a special operations task force, led by the 82nd Airborne, is on the trail of the terrorists, and those who seek to undermine the free government of Afghanistan. America and our coalition will finish what we have begun."

>>>> 8 years later were are still at war in Afghanistan, the Taliban is stronger than ever, and the US is gearing up to do battle in this mess.

From Pakistan to the Philippines to the Horn of Africa, we are hunting down al-Qaida killers. Nineteen months ago, I pledged that the terrorists would not escape the patient justice of the United States. And as of tonight, nearly one-half of al-Qaida's senior operatives have been captured or killed.

>>>> Bush's term at the helm has come & gone and Al Qaeda is still operating.

The liberation of Iraq is a crucial advance in the campaign against terror. We have removed an ally of al-Qaida, and cut off a source of terrorist funding. And this much is certain: No terrorist network will gain weapons of mass destruction from the Iraqi regime, because the regime is no more.

>>>> Ask Iraqis if they feel liberated today.

Our war against terror is proceeding according to principles that I have made clear to all:

>>>> This is telling, it looks like *the plan* all along was to start wars, and keep them going.
Although we heard stay the course, and we are winning, that was never the goal. The goal was to keep the wars going.

Any person involved in committing or planning terrorist attacks against the American people becomes an enemy of this country, and a target of American justice.

>>>> American Justice? Bush Regime?

My faith in American Justice will be restored when the Bush Regime is prosecuted and doing jail time for War Crimes.

This clip was made last year, but it's snark still rings true...

It's no joke- the fighting & dying continue.

4278 US Troops have died.
Millions of Iraqis have died.

We have lost more lives in the war, than the original amount of people who were killed in 9-11.
The Weapons of Mass Destruction guise was revealed as lies.
The reason Bush never answered Cindy Sheehan's question-- What is the noble cause?, is because there is not a noble cause.

Safe to say this Mission has been, and continues to be, a disaster.

E~ All of the above. It was just another layer of botched things the shrub did. That photo op flopped, and as the years go on, it becomes even more warped & distorted.
Gawd - they all need to be prosecuted for their war crimes.

I understand the sentiment, as do all the people who lost loved ones & suffer as a result of this "ending of major combat"/Mission Accomplished~ just more lies on the huge stack of lies.
They should NOT get away with murder, dammit.

living in san diego when bush staged this photo-op made it all the more painful. he hopped on a jet to fly a few miles off the coast where the aircraft carrier was carefully positioned so the cameras would not pick up the san diego skyline in the background. just another propaganda moment for the liar-in-chief.

I keep wondering when he'll be flying Osama bin Laden in for lunch at the ranch.
