America is NOT broke ~ Michael Moore's speech in Wisconsin

About 30 minutes, but totally worthwhile.

"Contrary to what those in power would like you to believe so that you'll give up your pension, cut your wages, and settle for the life your great-grandparents had, America is not broke. Not by a long shot. The country is awash in wealth and cash. It's just that it's not in your hands. It has been transferred, in the greatest heist in history, from the workers and consumers to the banks and the portfolios of the uber-rich." -- Michael Moore

"The scam of the Century"

The republicans would like you to think the country is broke because you are broke. However, you are broke because the republicans have given all the money that would have gone to you, to the wealthy. They not only have all the money, they pay a lower tax rate than you pay.

Thank you republican economics!

Jerry ~ Yep they have all the loopholes & writeoffs & a working stiff like me has none.
Kind of a "Let them eat crumbs" mentality.
Most of us "small people" are choking on it.

Michael Moore sure did electrify that crowd!

He's got the gift.

during whatever debates may take place, the question that has to be asked of every politician who voted for tax cuts for the rich is this:

we keep hearing that getting the economy back on track will take shared sacrifice. exactly what did donald trump, the koch brothers, mitt romney, and paris hilton sacrifice?

Of the many things I detest about President Pootie Tang is his 'Cat Food Commission,' and it's cynical attack on the elderly, the poor and the disabled.

From everything I've read, Social Security is solvent and the trust fund at current levels which don't reflect a return to full-employment and an increase in FICA payroll contributions, can pay benefits beyond 2050.

Long story, short: the Social Security Trust Fund isn't broke.

All of which calls into question why President Pootie Tang is so obsessed with limiting access to benefits and reducing the amount of benefits for recipients?

Could it have something to do with is interest in expanding the American empire into such places as Pakistan and Iran? War and empire doesn't come cheap and it looks like the Central Bank of Beijing is losing interest in buying American debt.

Christopher~ Hope you like you new digs.
The budget axes with GOP picking up lockstep steam are all aimed at programs that help those in need.
They are fine with slashing Head Start, Community health clinics, NPR, education, Senior programs Medicare & Medicaid.... because they got theirs.

That "Empire" tab is over the top & although Obama inherited it, it became his (and the blood on his hands), when he chose to perpetuate & escalate in Afghanistan.
We had money-- over a trillion on wars.

My son made a keen observation-- although this was a great speech & important comments made about this being an historic event in U.S. labor history-- did any of it make to to mainstream news?
Perhaps the mainstream media would rather not have the masses thinking about Unions & organized labor.

Fran,

Your son is wise.

Thanks for the kind words. Those 5 years in New York tested my spirit and our 18 year marriage. But, Jim and I survived and we're back in my beautiful, warm Southern California.

I don't even mind the high gas prices.

Glad you hung up the snow shovel & are in a sunnier place. Hello sub tropical weather!

High gas prices are everywhere.
Hopefully it will cause people to eventually buy "sippers" & get rid of guzzlers.

The West Coast is a different mentality, for sure.

Anyway-- hope everything settles in for you both nicely.

Your neighbor to the north.
