Oh what a relief it is

Beatles ~ Rain

I have a new appreciation for rain, now that the temps have warmed & no ice on the roads.
Hope your holiday season is going well

I was born and raised in California.

The notion of freezing rain, snow, black ice, blizzards, etc, is something new to me and I detest it.

No wonder so many millions of people, young and old alike, wake up one day and say enough, I'm moving to to North Carolina, or Florida, or Texas, or Arizona, or California.

Now that Jim has graduated, we can plot our path back west and out of this horrible climate. I tried to adjust to it but I simply can't. It isn't in my DNA to embrace snow.

That Beatles song really takes me back!
Ice and rain together are not a fun combination.

Christopher~ I grew up in the Midwest~ Chicago, we got the lake effect winter weather. I love that you don't have to shovel rain!

I still think snow is beautiful~ everything blanketed in white.... but the extreme conditions, freezing rain, power outages, dangerous driving conditions, falling trees.... that stuff blows.

Even if you have 4 wheel drive-- Ice is Ice. They rolled footage of a 4WD sliding sideways on an icy overpass bridge, from Portland OR.

Plus the West just really is different... I can't explain it. Maybe there are more wide open spaces, just seems to be a different mindset.

Of course now you have snow in Las Vegas (desert)... so your guess is as good as mine as to what the weather will be like in any given place!

I call these recent winter weather conditions Palin's revenge, because the storms blew in from Alaska.

Maria~ This song is sweet~ kind of meditative. In Western Oregon it is Coastal rainforest, so we get heavy winter rain- about 52 inches a year, which is why it is sooooo green.

My parents were born, raised and married in Wisconsin. After three children they moved to Oregon. The rains they found there in the winter were paradise to them after knee-deep WI snows.

And then I came along (they were living in Florence, OR at the time) and, at the ripe old age of 3 mos., I moved to California with them and they KNEW the sun they found there in the winter was paradise to them after the Oregon winter rains.

(But I'll always hold dear the lush western Oregon landscape, & the sea. Growing up, I spent my summers there. I loved California, just as I now love the desert Southwest.)

Dada, I can now understand why people become snow birds, visiting each climate at it's best.
I lived in S. CA for a while, and Arizona. I have a hard time with the intense heat, and a hard time with high rent!
At least the winters are usually forgiving here. This is the time southern climates revel in their balmy comfort, and can be glad they are nowhere near the blizzard conditions much of the country is dealing with.
