Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss

Monday is the 105th anniversary of the birth of one Mr. Theodor Seuss Geisel, better known to the world as the incredible, indelible Dr. Seuss!!! One of my favorite Seuss stories is The Lorax. The Lorax "speaks for the trees", it is the story of deforestation, and rampant consumerism done in that wonderful Seuss whimsical way.

Part 2

Part 3

At some point, logging Industry people wanted the book banned. Seuss prevailed & the Lorax continued to *speak for the trees*.

So Cat-in-the-Hat
Green Eggs & Ham
Thneeds, the Grinch & Sneeches
You brought us them all
With drawings & rhymes
We will continue to love them so many times!

How subversive! No wonder the logging industry wanted to ban The Lorax!

When we were looking to buy a new bed some years ago, we ended up with "the same one Ted Giesel slept on til he died" ... well not the exact one, but the same custom mfr. They had a display with a large hunk of Giesel's bed. It was encased in plastic, but you could still fondle it & check out the firmness. The idea was to show how wellmade the bed was. He really did sleep on the same bed for the last 40-yrs of his life in San Diego. We are still sleeping on & still laughing about our Dr Seuss bed.

So you are saying you rest your head
on a super duper Seuss firm bed
you check out a sample of his sleeper
and decided it was a keeper?

I LOOOVE Seuss.... he had such fun tackling serious social issues, but made them simple & abstract, so they did not sound preachy, but made his point very well.
Plus he invented the art of making up words to pull off the rhyme, and his crazy colors & characters, made the whole business nothin' but fun for kids.
