Pizza=Healthcare?????

I am reprinting this editorial from Thursday's Register Guard:

Foreigners envy our pizza parties

Don't listen to the Canadians, the British & the French, et al, brag about their government health care systems! I'm sure they would much rather have pizza parties the way the United States does to pay for medical procedures insurance companies refuse to cover, or for people without insurance.

Where else can you save a life & eat pizza too?

Written by Laura Pogue

This editorial really captures the state of affairs re health care in the U.S.
Even if you attend an event, you know whatever percentage of the evening's take @ the pizza parlor is really not going to come close to covering someone's Cancer treatment, or major surgery expenses.
What is it going to take to get the Teabaggers to wake up?

I love this writer's tongue in cheek stance on US healthcare. I see write ups for pizza party health care fundraisers ALL the time. Most often it is for a very serious disease, and for someone who is uninsured.
This is the part that floors me on the health care debate (or should I say Brawl??), while people carry on & whine about their own personal policy & coverage, they seem to ignore & miss the fact that so many are without any coverage whatsoever.
In fact-- I had a teabagger type approach me at our local town hall meeting--the talking point he recited-- was so many of the uninsured are illegal immigrants.
Made me so mad--- I wanted to throw a pizza at him.

who needs health care reform when you have bake sales, pizza partied, and barbecues? the irony is that, when people have heart attacks and either have no insurance or are refused payment from their insurance companies, the rethugs will scream that they should have stopped eating all that fattening pizza, those baked goods, and bbq ribs. then they wouldn't have gotten fat and had heart attacks.

You are 2 steps ahead of the circular illogic, I see. Always the finger to point.
Oy!
