Shine your light

Here is a video of an elaborate X mas light display in Texas.... over 14,000 led light bulbs.

I can't in good conscience do something like that, knowing there are so many families in the so-called "99'ers" group, those who hit 99 weeks of unemployment, rudely having the plug pulled on unemployment checks in winter, when utility bills are high, & at the holidays.

People are struggling in severe hard times.
Rather than paying homage to the Chinese sweat shop X mas light makers, and paying an enormous electric bill to the utility company.... seek out someone who is jobless. Struggling. In crisis. Give them cash or grocery store gift cards. Donate to the food bank. Give blankets, gloves & coats to the homeless shelters. Volunteer. Donate to the soup kitchen.

We can shine our light this season & there is something much brighter than 14,000 light bulbs.

if i had to look for a silver lining, i'd say that perhaps some children of 99'ers will be able to get some pleasure from other people's decorated homes, and it won't cost anything to look at them.

i don't understand why people overdecorate like that, but i don't celebrate xmas, so maybe i shouldn't judge them.

I wouldn't want to be a neighbor of that house ... I don't even like streetlights (prefer my night sky lit with stars, thanks) ... all those flashing blinking lights ... spare my eyes!
