Callypso on down to your produce department.
But seriously, have you noticed how much garbage they have in "food stores" these days?
Here's a good rule of thumb- if you can't read it, don't eat it!
One of the biggest scams out there is the Nutrition label - Check the Serving size...
often the numbers listed for carbs, fiber, fat, etc. need to be multiplied.
My rule of thumb is "Stay to the outside walls while shopping" Think about it, fresh veggies, bakery, (whole grain breads), dairy, (Yogurt and natural foods) and fresh food like fish and choices on free range meats are all found along the walls. In the aisles is the garbage,m ('cept for tea and coffee) I'm very happy that I have, so far, kept off the weight I lost since I was ill in November and December, and I did it by eating from along the outside walls.
My rule of thumb is the less processed the better and to stick to the perimeter of the store, plus buy organic and/or local as much as possible. No meat for me either.
Also, I drink my fruits and veggies--blend them, drink, and go--voila!
Spado~ Good rule. Amazing what they pass off as "food" these days.
Life~ WE've been scrutinizing the labels of late... one smallish tray of eggplant parmisan (looked like a serving for 2) was considered to be *SIX* servings. Whoah! What originally looked like reasonable nutritional values suddenly got exponentially bad.
Even something like activia -- which boasts of just 70 calories-- the commercial says just eat it 3 x a day. That pretty much blows the good numbers doesn't it?
We need to hit the local/organic farmer's markets more & get the good stuff. The flavor & quality is so much better.
Thought this was a fun song- love the veggie man @ the end.
wow, all those colorful fruits and veggies ... so attractive and good for you, too ... as long as they're not overcooked and swimming in butter (at restaurants, I order my veggies "dry" and hope they are still have some life in them).
ps, if I ate Activia 3xday, I'd spend 24-hrs in the bathroom!
