Best Wishes

The sole active Female Supreme Court Justice~ Ruth Bader Ginsburg is hospitalized for surgery to remove a tumor on her pancreas. Ginsburg is one of only two female justices to ever serve. The other is Sandra Day O'Connor, who retired in 2006.

The only woman on the court, Ginsburg has been a justice since 1993. She is a liberal-leaning justice who has been vocal in recent years about the court's more conservative stance.

In 1999, Ginsburg had surgery for colon cancer and had chemotherapy and radiation treatment. The new cancer was discovered during a routine, annual exam late last month at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Md.

Pancreatic cancer is one of the most deadly cancers: Nearly 38,000 cases a year are diagnosed and overall, fewer than 5 percent of patients survive five years. Hers was caught early, so it is hopeful she will respond to the treatment.

Ginsberg is one of the few voices of reason in the Supreme Court.

I wish her well.

I don't mean to be insensitive here, but let's hope the Lady Justices pay their taxes.

More than 1/2 the US population is female, yet we only have 1 of 12 Supreme Court judges that is a female.

Too bad is isn't Scalia or Roberts or Thomas.

Those three men are the real douchebags on the SCOTUS.

From what I heard they seem to think they got it all and should be no problem, but with her age it is going to be hard for her to bounce back.. I hope she will, but if not hang in long enough for Pres. Obama to appoint someone to replace her...know any good female liberal judges?? lol

We have a nasty line up in the SCOTUS.
I hope Obama gets to replace a bunch.
Thanks to the Bush regimes 1 & 2 the court is douche-heavy right now. Yuck!

Yea Annette~ she was always so frail looking, she is elderly & will have to go through chemo. So it's not looking good, plus I am sure, if she has to step down, she will be sure to do it under this regime.

In fact she probably knew about this before the inauguration, but waited to make sure the new pres was in place.

Remember Thurgood Marshall waited for the Clinton regime change before he put in for retirement.

Ginsburg was not happy with the Lily Ledbetter court decision... how was Ledbetter to know who was making what for all those years.... most employers ask you do not reveal wages.

Anyway, I wish her well, but the Vetting process should begin & we HAVE to have at least one token female seated on the highest court of the country.

Not pushing Ginsberg off stage yet, but in the event she needs to retire, how 'bout Hillary for S

(I don't much like her Mid-East Sec. of State dogma. I keep confusing her with the Bush administration. Of course, I guess that's America's fate. To forever have our head up the a** of Israel.)

I was sad to hear of this too. I hope she'll be OK. At least Pres. Obama will be the one to replace her if it comes to that. I have a feeling some of the other more liberal justices may step down during his term just because they're old and know that if they retire now at least they can be replaced by a like-minded justice.

I agree we need at least one (preferably more than one) woman on the Court.

Good point Dada~ I THINK HILL IS A BAD CHIOCE FOR INTERNATIONAL DIPLOMAT. She has been too quick to approve war, and has that slant, plus you want a cool headed person with negotiating & diplomacy skills. She seems hot headed, and testy.

On the other hand, she likes the photo ops & the spotlight, the Supremes tend to stay away from it.

Maui~ I hope she recovers as well, but she is up there in her years. Why do they have such old people on the SC? Such heavy workloads, pressure, I would thing 70 something year olds would want to retire & not work till they die??

I think the Justices are very careful about the timing of their retirement. Too bad O'Connor felt she needed to bow out. I wish SHE was named the Chief Justice, instead of Roberts- who can't even get the swearing in oath of the president right.
Ugh!

I hope Ginsberg does bounce back ... but if she's going to step out, let it be on Obama's watch. Same for the other old lib justices.

We need to take a cue from Dub & appoint much younger justices when we have the chance, so when the pendulum swings, as it always does, there is still a hope for balance of power. I hate that Roberts & Alito will be with us for many decades. Scalia, phew, he really stinks up the place! I think he's still smarting over not getting named Chief Supreme, but what did he expect, palling around with Cheney so much that even Dub realized it would look bad.

As far as who would replace Ginsberg, it really does have to be a woman, but I would not be looking in the politican field. It will most likely be someone we've never heard of, who has made their bones in the circuit court or similar justice arena. And no moderate libs either! I want a flamingly unquestionable lib. I want her to be so liberal, she thinks socialism is too right-wing. Gotta balance out the extremism of Scalia and Thomas somehow.

Ooooh, Deke is giving me fantasies now ("I want a flaming unquestionable lib....socialism is too right-wing.")

OK, I'll snap out of it and come back to this Universe....just give me a few more minutes/hours/days.

i hope she gets better, but it looks like it is time for her step down --- i think obama will pick a woman --- the three justices that will probably step down soon are all the liberal wing...

manh i wish thomas or scalia would just go away

DK ~ You get the best idea award here. YES! WE have to balance out the out of whack Supreme Court- Socialism does not go far enough! I LOVE IT!!!!!!!

Uncle Tom ( Clarence Thomas), Scalia & Roberts are our neanderthal justices.

the rate of survival is not good if there has already been liver, or colon cancer....also that she has had chemo and rads already...her immune system will be more fragile this time....so I worry about her ...

I really do....
