Worthwhile Rant ~ Lion's Roar

This is one of the best rants on the Senate floor, ever.
Ted Kennedy has his say about federal minimum wage not being raised in 10 years. It is vintage footage, but something Congress can learn from now-- they need to stop the partisan bickering & realize what it is they are supposed to be doing- working for the PEOPLE. While Congress got a $4000 raise this year, the people are hurting.

When does the greed stop? he asked
He accuses the republicans of "filibustering by delays and amendments".
Yes, some things never change.

But that vote did happen and federal minimum wage was raised for the first time in 10 years.

Federal minimum wage is now $6.55 per hour, and goes up to $7.25 per hour effective July 24, 2009.

We still need people to get up there on the Senate floor and rant about taking care of the "little people". Because the latest cuts to the Stimulus package include head start, child nutrition, food stamps & public transit.

When DOES the greed stop?

would that Reid had that kind of backbone to him. He is such a spineless freak.

Reid, Pelosi, & all of congress.

This was such an excellent rant. He'd had it !!!

I feel very frustrated that all the GOP could do was rubber stamp war funds and tax cuts for the rich for all those years, that is all they know how to do.

Care for the children, feed the poor- such foreign concepts. Grrrrr

Fran: I just came teary eyed from Border Explorer's blog on "Please Don't Divorce Us" only to find another tear jerker blog here! Thank you so much for this. It's sad to hear these words coming from a truly liberal leader for many, many years in the senate, knowing his days among us are limited. And his testament here, as recorded on the senate floor, could really send me off.

But I won't go off on republican 'penisheads' (I know, I know, what is name calling but 'going off' on those twerps?) that are so blatantly and so often opposed to things that are so *in the best interest of the country* they so purport to love?

What's even sadder is the fact nearly 1/2 the country thinks just like those sanctimonious republican hypocrite senators. (Ooh, I said that so "politely"!)

Teddy is the best.

A singular voice of intelligence and reason in a body that all too often, forgets who they work for.

Amen, Chris!

Dada~ I found Kennedy's speech to be so right on. It did not bring me to tears as much as it turned my head & made me say Wow! Right on! He delivered it with passions, fervor, yelling. Not just another guy in a tie blathering on- he had fire in his belly, and he was NOT going to mince words.
Stop stalling, cut the crap, spending billions on corporate items, and this is such a small amount for the lowest paid people.
We want to vote NOW on just this issue.
He'd watched the game played too many times.
He could not stomach it, anymore.

Oh if only more people in Congress could adopt this "cut to the chase" no nonsense approach, we might actually begin to heal & fix this country.

Oh! The story does have a happy ending too- he GOT the minimum wage raise passed.

The Dems need to get smart.
When the GOP begins to play games- hold a press conference, make public the heartless cuts and games they are playing. They need a united front to
put the problem in the spotlight for all to see.

Fran, I don't know why that vid didn't work.. it seemed to work for me. If it doesn't work you might try the link to Phil's site at Progressive Alaska and see if it works there.. it is funny but not funny at the same time.. I am not sure if it is a joke or not.. but it would be quite something if she did it. I would love to see his face.
