NO HEART for Palin

Sarah Palin relaxing amongst dead animals.
If Palin had it her way, she'd have the entire Arctic Wildlife carcass collection.

The Republicans used the HEART band song "Barracuda" at the end of the convention. Barracuda is Palin's nickname.

"Heart's lead singers, sisters Ann and Nancy Wilson (who also plays guitar), announced Friday that Universal Music Publishing and Sony BMG have sent a "cease-and-desist" letter demanding that McCain's campaign stop playing the tune "as the congratulatory theme for Sarah Palin."

"The Republican campaign did not ask for permission to use the song, nor would they have been granted permission," Heart announced on its website. "We have asked the Republican campaign not to use our music. We hope our wishes will be honored."

In a statement posted on Entertainment Weekly’s EW.com website, the Wilson sisters said Palin’s “views and values in NO WAY represent us as American women. We ask that our song 'Barracuda' no longer be used to promote her image. The song 'Barracuda' was written in the late '70s as a scathing rant against the soulless, corporate nature of the music business, particularly for women. (The 'barracuda' represented the business.) While Heart did not and would not authorize the use of their song at the RNC, there's irony in Republican strategists' choice to make use of it there.” ~ As reported by the L.A. Times.

Heart has it all wrong. After 8 years of republican total disregard for anything reeking of legal, law abiding or needing permission, Heart is simply being "petty."

Tell 'em to get over it! Republicans don't need their frickin' permission to steal from 'em!

It's a new world shaped by the likes of a couple of a**holes in the WH who oughta be in prison instead, along with their "in contempt of congress" aide Rove, now advising the McCain drive for another 8 years in the White House - "not to worry, McCain will never make 8 years, he just needs to make it a day past Nov. 3rd, after the WH has been declared his, right?" Dada says unsuredly. "Or, if McCain wins the election but dies the next day, is the election voided and there's, like, a jump ball or something to see if Sarah gets to keep it?")

(Thanks for this picture! I'd done a brief search for it w/o success. Disappointed she doesn't have a raw endangered, marginally extinct salmon hanging from her jaws.)

I detect a bit of sarcasm in your post... it;s true the repugs have pretty much mowed over all other rules, laws & the constitution...
but I thought it was kick ass that they stepped up & went public.

You can't use our song & you don't represent our values. Right On!
They are gonna be as popular as the Dixie Chicks.-- after they get past the death threats, and CD burnings by extremist right wing groups.

The Wilson sisters are wonderful...I kinda knew them when I lived in the NW- in a preripheral way...they were friends with one of my AIDS patients I have talked about this a few times - but they would call him on the phone every friday- really wonderful ladies- and they sound just like the sing...and are very good hearted and used to send him care packages ....I was very touched that they were NORMAL people..and they hated the Repugs and Reagon....even back then this was back in the 90's....and Baracuda was and is one of their fav songs- one that they are most proud of...so I do understand....

the Repugs have tried to steal from many artists now...Mellencamp, the Boss, Van Halen, and Jackson Brown....oye...

( personally I think McCoot should use the Heart "Crazy on you" song as his theme ...)

Someone should just write special songs for them. Possible title:

• It's an oil world after all

Or ressurect oldies-

• These boots were made for walking ( they'll walk all over you)

• I did it my way

Yea...

I really admire them for calling it out publicly, which always has personal & professional risks.
