A hairy solution?

Check this out! Apparently hair collects oil. This group is accepting donations of hair from people and dogs, as well as
used nylons. Stuff the hair in the stocking, it drinks up oil.
Matter of trust is currently sending all hair/fur donations to the Gulf Coast.

300,000 pounds of hair is cut daily in the U.S.
Please! Pass this along to your haircutter, & pet groomer.

I know this seems like a needle in a haystack, with the vast oil spill in the Gulf, but it's pretty impressive how it works. The non profit company that makes hair into large mats for sopping up oil, or into absorbent booms is on to something here.
At least this is something proactive that can be done about the situation, rather than just feel overwhelmed. I also like the fact that dog hair can be used- so animals are essentially helping other animals.

I like it, too! Excellent use of what is otherwise a nuisance throw-away item clogging up vacuums and shower drains and landfills.

i read about the hair the other day but not about the nylons. i wonder if they contacted the licensing bureaus that register hairdressers so that the clarion call can be sent to all the beauty parlors and barbershops. dog grooming parlors would be good, too.
