The Rapture

Well if today is the end of life as we know it, I'm going out with bagpipe music @ the Scottish Festival!

nice way to end the world ... go out with bagpipes and kilts! with all the media hype May 21 is getting, expect crowds at most drinking establishments starting at 6PM.

I like seeing all the coats of arms at those festivals even though my family's is 3 rotted heads on pikes ... ugh! The literal translation (scots to english) is "ugly head". How fearsome in battle do you have to be to earn that name? I inherited their hair and sometimes their temper, but am thankfully unskilled in sticking heads on pikes ... would rather listen to bagpipes as music than as a call to arms.

"Touch not the cat but a glove" is the crest & motto.
This is not your basic housecat. It looks like a bobcat

(in Gaelic, "Na bean don chat gun lamhainn".)

The motto's meaning is: Touch not the cat (when it is) without a glove.

The glove of the wildcat is the soft, under part of his paw, and when assuming a war-like attitude, the paw is spread or ungloved revealing very dangerous claws. The motto is a warning to those who would be so imprudent as to engage in battle when the claw of the wildcat is ungloved.

Basically means "The Wildcat Is Fierce When Its Claws Are Unsheathed... Be Warned... Do Not Touch."

Either way, it's a particularly effective historical equivalent of the 'no solicitors' sign...

P.S. I too am glad you are not skilled in putting heads on pikes. Seems a little over the top!
(Ohh! Bad pun!)
