Swinewatch

U.S. Influenza and Pneumonia-Associated Hospitalizations
and Deaths from August 30 – September 19, 2009
Posted September 25, 2009, 11:00 AM ET
Data reported to CDC by September 22, 2009, 12:00 AM ET

Hospitalizations 10,082
Deaths 936

This data is confusing, because they just added 1 weeks data to the previous 2 weeks data....

Bottom line, in one week's time

Additional 5513 hospitalizations

Additional 572 deaths. (summer average was 40 per week, until the end of August).

Yea, the media is doing a great job covering the topic.
CNN has a Test Your knowledge about the H1N1 flu quiz.......

Hint: It is related to the graphic

P.S. We are soooo screwed!

Elmo says, stock up on Tamiflu ... we need to enrich its favorite stockholder, Donald Rumsfeld!

Seriously, did you catch Sanjay Gupta talking to Anderson Cooper the other night? Gupta caught swine flu in Afghanistan. Cooper was very ill, too. They both had residual coughs. Then tonight on Bill Maher, I heard Paul Krugman hacking the same kind of cough.

Oh yeah, we are so screwed.

I saw the CNN quiz about the flu & thought I'm game. I consider myself to be fairly knowledgeable about H1N1... I'll take the quiz.

But when I saw the question:
"Which Sesame Street character is appearing in advertisements to teach young children better hygiene during flu season?"

Are they serious?

Identifying which muppet will be a spokespuppet for hygiene in commercials is testing our deadly pandemic flu knowledge?

To be fair, the correct answer could just as easily have been Cookie Monster or Big Bird.

But please...... how dumbed down & irrelevant
is that question?

Good they are having ads geared to kids.... but not some basic knowledge we really need.

Nothing personal Elmo.

They don't want us to panic, which is a good thing yes, but...they need to quit acting like we are little children that need to be carefully led-oh wait...

Liberality! Good to hear from you. You've been in my thoughts. Hope you are ok.

We apparently need to be led.

It was just the weirdest question testing your knowledge about this disease.

But.... I must say, I learned something new.
I had not known Elmo was the muppet spokesperson.

We are all enlightened now!

DK ~ I did catch a clip re Gupta catching swine flu in Afg. Something about when he went to the infirmary, they said it had to be swine flu, because that is the only flu going around there.
Hmm... I did not hear that on the news.
He recovered OK.... but scary stuff.

In the conversation Gupta had with AC on AC360, he said he was swabbed and it showed positive for Swine. He said it really knocked him out. He was down for days, dizzy, fatigued, fever and a cough so bad it hurt his heart to hack. He only found out later that the area they were in (both he & AC) was being hard-hit with Swine. He didn't say, but that must be the military base they were at which means service people are passing it around & will bring it back home here. AC kind of freaked out cuz his ordeal had been milder and now he thinks he must've also had Swine.

What gave me pause was hearing them both hacking a very distinctive residual cough, and then hearing Paul Krugman hacking the same exact way on Bill Maher friday night.

Doesn't Elmo say to cough into your sleeve? The cameras never showed Krugman coughing, so I don't know if he was using a kleenex or what. Jeez, hope they disinfected the set afterwards.
