After holding the 2 park spaces through the night with thousands of people joining in solidarity, the Portland Oregon police zoned in to shut it down.
The remaining tents were removed, and chain link fences are being placed around the park blocks to make the park inaccessible to all, allegedly "for repairs".
Police in riot gear are now threatening the use of chemical & impact weapons.
Chants from the protestors:
"What we are doing is legal"
"I don't see no riot here, take off your riot gear".
This is what democracy looks like?

how eerie to hear our leaders telling other countries how to handle protests.
OWS does resemble an American (vs Arab) Spring, complete with heavy handed shut downs accompanied by riot police violence & arrests to beat back the protestors. too bad it happened here in the Fall when the weather is turning colder and more dangerous for camping out overnight.
"Chemical & Impact Weapons" for Portland ... WTF? I don't get it. Did the US police learn nothing from Kent State and the Chicago Dem Convention? I guess, unlike in Egypt and even going back to the break-up of the Soviet Union, our people do NOT have the ear of our police. seems a lot more like Syria and Iran's reaction to public dissatisfaction with the status quo than what should be expected in a democracy.
in vegas, they shut down overnight OWS campers, but the daytime protests continue, though they do keep changing locations.
Eerie indeed to hear US leaders going on about how other countries should handle protests.
Tent cities of discontent have emerged nationwide.
They are probably washing their hands of it based on states rights.
Our local occupy group has permission to camp till Dec 15. What then????
Nice color choice on the blog. It is really easy on my eyes and I have bad eyes too so that’s a really big compliment lol

i think they're just insuring that more and more people will show up to protest. we aren't supposed to live in a police state. what good is our freedom of speech if nobody can hear us?
Freedom of speech, complete with squadrons of police in riot gear!
